For the first time, the professionals of the health of the mother, the new-born baby and the child of the whole world officially linked their forces in order to accelerate the efforts in order to achieve the international goals of development as regards health of the mother and the child. The new partnership marks an important stage taking into account the interest more and more shown carried to the health of the women and the children.

In spite of progress in certain countries, at the current rate/rhythm, the objectives of the Millenium for development (OMD) fixed for 2015 as regards health of the mother and the child will not be achieved. Each year, more than 500 000 women die during the pregnancy or of the childbirth and nearly 11 million children die, for the majority of avoidable causes. To face this medical crisis, of the countries and the active organizations in the field of the health of the mother, the new-born baby and the child launched today the partnership for the health of the mother, of the new-born baby and the child.

"If we want to achieve the goals of reduction of maternal mortality and the mortality of less than five years from here 2015, only a targeted effort, coordinated, can make it possible to provide the women, nouveau_nés and to the children the care of health of which they need during the pregnancy, the childbirth, the first weeks of the life and childhood. While working with the countries in order to increase the access to the existing medical solutions, this partnership is capable to transform million lives and to make essential progress ", declared Dr. LEE Jong_wook, General manager of the World Health Organization.

The partnership for the health of the mother, the new-born baby and the child will immediately start his work with the national leaders in order to propose with the countries the recommended approach "continuity of the care". In recent publications, including the world Report/ratio on health in the world, 2005 of WHO, The Lancet Child Survival and Neonatal Series, and "Who' S got the power?" Project of the Millenium of the United Nations, eminent experts of world health agree that one starts to progress as from the moment when one meets the needs for health of the woman at the same time as to those of his child.

The partnership for the health of the mother, nouveau_né and the child joins together at the same time developing countries and donor countries, organizations of the United Nations, trade associations, university establishments and of research, foundations and of ONG, in order to intensify and to harmonize national, regional and world progress on the way of the achievement of objectives of the Millenium for development 4 and 5.
